General CommentsEHS observed facility using TPHC at prep units. Previously, facility had used TPHC when prep units weren’t properly functioning. EHS asked PIC if facility was following TPHC or temperature control. PIC stated that facility was in a habit of using TPHC but typically is flipping the unit every 4 hours. EHS asked what facility does if there are leftovers, PIC stated that there are rarely leftovers but if they are and if they are in temp, facility will place them back in WIC. EHS educated PIC on proper TPHC procedures and on the importance of ensuring facility is on the “same page”; ie, if unit is being held on time, maintain it on time and discard all items after the 4 hour time hold. EHS also explained that TPHC is only a temporary solution for when units aren’t properly functioning, however, units are expected to be maintaining proper temperatures of TCS items at all times. EHS provided info about upcoming info sessions.
