General CommentsDiscussed handwash sink usage with childcare providers and PIC. Each classroom has a diaper change handwash sink and a food prep handwash sink. Childcare providers asked for clarity on which sink to use to rinse pacifiers, wash bottles, make formula (if applicable) and get drinking water. Guidance was provided by REHS to utilize the kitchen sink (located across the hall) for such tasks. REHS also informed providers that all multi-service articles provided by the center shall be cleaned and sanitized in the child care center kitchen. If food is prepared in a classroom, a food preparation area shall be provided. Water from a handwash lavatory shall not be used to prepare formula, mix dry cereals, or other foods (A separate lavatory for handwashing is required). Toy cleaning and sanitizing may be conducted in this food preparation area. Prior to switching between toy cleaning and handwashing, providers must initiate change of use procedures which includes cleaning and sanitizing sink before washing hands or cleaning toys. Bailey Jeu de Vine accompanied REHS during inspection. Emailed Lisa Smith, PIC: lisasmith@hgchristian and Mara Brinton consultant: mara.brinton@dhhs.nc.gov
